Modern Myth: In pseudoarchaeology and ancient astronaut theories, the Anunnaki are famously (and inaccurately) reframed as extraterrestrials from a hypothetical planet Nibiru who came to Earth to mine gold. 

Sky Gods (General Category)

Definition: A cross-cultural archetypal category for deities linked to the sky, sun, moon, storms, or cosmic order.

Examples: Zeus (Greek), Jupiter (Roman), Anu (Sumerian), and Thor (Norse) are classic sky gods.

Comparison: While supreme sky gods like Anu or Zeus sit at the head of their respective pantheons, "sky god" describes a functional archetype, whereas the Anunnaki represent a collective corporate body or extended pantheon of regional and underworld governors rather than just one celestial ruler.
