Scaling kinetic floor tiles down in size sharply reduces their energy output because smaller surface areas capture less mechanical displacement and limit internal generator capacity. 

Energy Impact of Smaller Sizes

Shorter Travel Distance: Smaller tiles restrict the physical downward flex (deflection distance), cutting the raw mechanical energy available for conversion.

Miniaturized Generators: Compact internal dynamos or micro-induction coils have lower magnetic flux and weaker torque potential than full-scale modules. 

Lower Output per Step: While standard full-size modules (like those from Energy Floors) yield up to 2–35 watts depending on impact force, miniaturized variants drop drastically into the milliwatt range per step. 

Design Limitations

Footprint Mismatch: Human feet average 25–30 cm in length; tiles smaller than this fail to capture a full foot-strike compression evenly.

Efficiency Losses: Gearing mechanisms required to translate tiny linear drops into high-speed rotation lose more relative energy through friction at a smaller scale.
