The British Columbia government is not shrinking its core ministries from 23 to 15. The province has maintained a structure of 23 government ministries. Instead, the province is reducing bureaucracy by cutting 15,000 public sector jobs over three years and significantly reducing executive ranks to balance a historic deficit. 

The job reduction strategy targets the broader public sector and core ministries directly: 

The Public Service (Core Ministries): The province is cutting 2,500 full-time-equivalent (FTE) jobs from core ministries, relying primarily on attrition and voluntary departures. 

Broader Public Sector: The remaining 12,500 job reductions will come from Crown corporations, health authorities, school districts, and post-secondary institutions. 

Executive Reductions: Specific targets have been created to reduce the number of executive and administrative positions in the public sector, particularly in health and Crown sectors.
